Food is life.

Join us in changing the Company Name

‘Aber Food Surplus’ doesn’t represent our holistic approach to food system action and resilience anymore…. maybe it never did?

Our company name may be changing but our vision and purpose remain the same. And, over the next 6 weeks, we would love it if you could take a little time to learn more about the project, and help us to explore a new, more suitable name!

Bwyd Aber Pwy?   -   Aber Food Who?

For now, we are enjoying operating under the temporary name  ‘Aber Food Who?’ a playful call to action, which is both an invitation to participate in our name change process and an invitation to you to take action towards positive environmental change, in any way you like, because ‘Who?’ also represents us, and you, and the community of Aberystwyth who eat food.

‘Who’ we think we are now…

We are  a pioneering not-for-profit social enterprise focused on having a positive impact on the food system, delivering meaningful community change and volunteer empowerment. The initiative started as a volunteer and community led surplus food redistribution project to reduce the environmental impact of waste. Now, alongside 45 brilliant volunteers, the Aber Food Surplus team delivers a HUGE range of different food system activities!

We hope this process will be an opportunity to learn and share about WHAT we do, WHY we’re doing it, and HOW you can get involved. And we hope you can provide us with some feedback along the way!

We have 3 ways for you to find out more and get involved in the name change:

Did you know our name ‘Aber Food Surplus’ was invented back in 2018? We have come so far, and we are totally ready to renew ourselves!

Get involved

Aber Food Surplus is run by the community for the community, involving people of all ages and backgrounds. Valuing and sharing food makes us happier, healthier and brings us closer together.

We need local people to collect surplus food, sort donations and prepare meals. So whatever your skills and interests we have a role for you!

If you’re a charity or community group in Aberystwyth, we can supply you with surplus food regularly or for a one-off event. You’ll save money and help reduce food waste.

If you’re a local supermarket or food business, we can collect surplus food from you on a regular basis. You’ll reduce your costs and stop edible food ending up in landfill.

We’re working with local schools to create and test curriculum-linked workshops and resources. Can you help us bring food waste issues to life in your classroom?

We put on regular pop up Pay As You Feel meals around the town and turn up at other events throughout the year. Take a look at our calendar to find your next event.

Donate today and help us cut food waste, bring people together, and make our town a pioneering example of food sustainability.
