Aberystwyth Community Fridge
For local food businesses
Food Businesses:
Ask yourself:
Is it at risk of being wasted?
Is it fresh and within its use by date?
Is it good to eat for 24 more hours?
Is it sealed and correctly labelled?
Bring the food to the hub during opening hours
Email Aber Food Surplus to organise a regular collection from your shop
Volunteers in the hub will weigh, record and put the food in the fridge
There is no need to feel any shame about food waste. We acknowledge that surplus is a fact of life. The ECO Food Sharing Hub is an integral part of a more circular food system.
For the local community
Local Community:
What food should you take?
Come on in, take what you will use or eat within 24 hours, make sure to take a sharing and caring approach so the next people who visit the fridge can also share and enjoy some of the food.
We advise that people with allergies avoid using the surplus food. Read what we do and do not accept, and our disclaimer here.
How much does the food cost?
No-one will ask you to pay, but we rely on people who ‘Pay As You Feel’, it is OK to pay for the food, this will support the ongoing Aber Food Surplus project, help us continue, grow and expand.
This food comes with overheads that are covered by Aber Food Surplus, like transportation costs, rent, insurance, staff, and electricity bills. Please ‘Pay As You Feel’.
We are welcoming people to value the food in giving it a new life and not wasting it
Pay As You Feel means you can pay in many ways, not just with money, you might pay with your time volunteering with us, by sharing your skills with the community through the hub, or by sharing recipes…do you have ideas for how you might pay as you feel?

Use by dates are a marker of safety, this means that any food out of its use by date must be thrown away.
We accept food passed its best before by date, but we will NEVER accept food passed its use by date.
Always check the date labels when you are using the community fridge incase someone has made an error.
